What would help faculty make more informed judgments about The Story of God as the context for General Education curriculum?

Business

  • This requires a common theological vocabulary and framework that may not exist at this time among faculty.
  • A defined/adopted framework to follow across all departments
  • Need to define the phrase better
  • Study options for Gen Ed faculty
  • More sessions like today
  • We need space (time & physical) for interdepartmental conversation
  • Time to think about or be guided by those who have already thought about it.

Communication Studies

  • Can we get a copy of Tim’s PowerPoint sent to us for review and reflection?
  • Continued dialogue with all areas
  • time

Education

  • Providing opportunities for faculty to share their experiences & strategies
  • Short review each fall
  • Objectives/standards driving each Gen Ed class: content of courses; how do gen ed profs see their classes in that context
  • Understanding collaboration –team teaching—interdisciplinary teaching strategies
  • In-depth, guided conversation among faculty within community, within departments.
  • Tim to share with those who teach in the major an outline that could be integrated with courses within a major
  • Continue to dialogue with the faculty at faculty meetings

English

  • Knowing what ideas and illustrations are used in Gen Ed by all the faculty

Graduate Psychology and Psychology

  • Some sort of unified template to allow for multiple examples

History & Political Science
  • (I’m drawing a blank on this one)
  • Dialogue, discussion

Center for Leadership, Calling, and Serivce
I
  • think we need more of these ongoing discussions and we need to see more examples of what we are doing to view Gen Ed courses as "Revealing the Story of God" context.
  • Training on how to integrate
Physician Assistant
  • More study and more discussion about this subject. Perhaps encouraging faculty to work on this in their course/curriculum.

Religion

  • More discussions & explanation; perhaps using creeds and Articles of Faith to explain
  • A discussion-oriented workshop (with sufficient time—not a meeting at 10:00). Perhaps a jointly developed graphic and maybe even some course titles that reflect this understanding.
  • A more in-depth workshop/seminar on the Story of God and give a deeper understanding of what the story is.
  • Resources; Specific helps for each course (Brainstorming, outcomes, methods, content)
Social & Behavioral Sciences
  • Today was good. More examples would help. Maybe, take the topic up in Faculty Development meetings with faculty (e.g. faculty retreats).
  • Further discussion
  • I do think we need to discuss this further. A literal understanding on the part of faculty members might serve to limit the breadth of what we teach. We don’t want to go there. . .
  • Today was good. More examples would help. Maybe, take the topic up in Faculty Development meetings with faculty (e.g. faculty retreats).
  • Small group discussion
